Dr. 'Bob' Sykes entered private practice in Charlotte in 1989 after returning from a 21-year distinguished career as an Oral Surgeon in the United States Air Force. He received his undergraduate degree from the Medical College of Georgia, School of Dentistry. His surgical residency was complete at David Grant Medical Center, in the Air Force. He was certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1982. During his tenure in the Air Force, Dr Sykes attained the rank of Colonel and served as Director of Graduate Education and Chairman of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. In addition, he was appointed as the Special Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General in Oral Surgery. After leaving the military service, Dr. Sykes moved to Charlotte with his wife Linda and two daughters, Laura and Amy. He has served on numerous hospital committees at both Carolina’s Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospitals, including Chairman, Oral Surgery Department at Presbyterian Hospital. Golf, racquetball, and music are among his active hobbies and interests. He also participated in numerous medical mission trips with his church and volunteers frequently to staff the homeless shelter dental clinic.
